Chocolate Cake
Flowery Tins – Sorry about the ghastly plastic wrapper. When you bake a cake at home, you take it out of the oven and cool it on a wire rack. Then you eat a large slice (as a reward) and keep the rest in a flowery cake tin, like your Grandma used to! Think of this nasty wrapper as a cake tin. Is the onnly way we can keep the cake moist and delicious. As is often the case, the beauty is on the inside.

Pret is still an organic-food chain, but it’s no more a Franchise. I had the chance to meet Julian and Sinclair (both founders and owners) and they are exactly like their food: LOVELY! They knew each other at college and became friends (...more than friends, actually…). Later they started with a small sandwich-shop in Victoria in 1986 and when their business grew up (organic food wasn’t so popular) they had the Franchise idea. They were making tons of money so they wanted to buy back all shops. There are about 150 Pret shop at the moment (some of them in NYC and Hong Kong, too) but only one shop is still franchising. It’s the one in 63 Tottenham Court Road, which is owned by Mr Warren Grant… End of gossip ;-)
